Hello! My name is Cassie Welliver and I am excited to announce that I have acquired Drama Kids of South and East King County! I am simultaneously the Executive Director of Renton’s Carco Theatre, which I think will be an amazing fit for the Drama Kids program and for our community. I plan to have before and after-school classes in the Issaquah, Renton, Kent and Tahoma School Districts, as well as community after-school and Saturday classes at Carco Theatre, hopefully allowing more kids the opportunity to develop the life-changing skills acquired through drama such as confidence, empathy and speaking abilities.
Parents will be happy to know that the Carco location provides ample parking with walkable access to the Renton Community Center and Henry Moses Aquatic Center, as well as a dedicated classroom, a large stage and lobby. I will be posting our Fall classes and school-break camps schedule very soon and I look forward to welcoming Carol Ann Witschi’s former students as well as many new ones!
My credentials: a Master’s degree in Arts Management from Carnegie Mellon University and over 20 years of experience in theatre management. I grew up in the community youth theatre program at the Players Guild of Canton, OH, and I honestly believe that theatre training was a vital part of my childhood development. After college, I had a Fulbright Scholarship studying Theatre in Stockholm, Sweden, then worked in Audience Services at NPR in DC. More recently, I worked for the Broadway Center for the Performing Arts in Tacoma and served as Director of the Minnaert Center for the Arts in Olympia.
In my free time, I make artwork with my husband in our studio at Equinox in Georgetown. I believe that every child should have access to the benefits of arts education, creative thinking and self-expression, and am very excited to be part of making that happen in King County!
