Drama Kids’ extensive and comprehensive curriculum was designed by educators, and is the result of more than 35 years of experience and continuous development. While kids are learning and developing new creative thinking styles and skills, they are also developing other important life skills, including public speaking. ALL Drama Kids programs are guaranteed to be both educational and FUN!

ENROLLING NOW FOR 2023 SPRING PERFORMANCE SESSION!

Drama Kids classes are held weekly and include a wide range of creative activities that promote leadership, communication skills, and self-confidence in kids and young adults. Choose from our traditional one-hour skill-based drama classes or take your performance skills to the next level with our popular “Take 2” Performance Academy classes.

Our Creative Dramatic classes meet weekly for one hour and build a foundation of drama skills such as projection, articulation, dramatic movement, & improvisation. Our one-hour Acting Academy classes for teens & tweens, expand on acting fundamentals while delving deeper into more complex acting techniques…and do it all the Drama Kids way!

Our “TAKE 2” Performance Academy program caters specifically to students who want a more intensive theatre arts experience – done DRAMA KIDS style! Our students are always our #1 focus. We focus on BUILDING CONFIDENCE, NOT on the SHOWS! No pressure. No auditions. No singing or dancing experience is required. Classes meet weekly for two hours.

New this year, our “TAKE 2” Advanced Musical Theatre Performance Academy is open to students with prior drama experience, ages 8-18. Three-hour classes include semi-private lessons, taught by highly trained and experienced professionals, and are delivered alongside rehearsals for a full-scale Broadway Jr. Musical at the end of each session, Fall and Spring.

DRAMA KIDS “TAKE 2” PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Drama Kids is a skill-based drama program focusing on building our students’ confidence, not focused on building SHOWS. Our “TAKE 2” Performance Academy classes cater specifically to students who want to explore the basics of theater, want a challenge, and have the desire to perform more. Students will learn from an award-winning curriculum that encourages them to express themselves through communication, creativity, and collaboration, all while building confidence on stage and off!

All of our TAKE 2 Performance Academy classes run for 14 weeks in the Fall (Oct-Feb) and 14 weeks in the Spring (Feb-June) and include:

Basic Introductory Drama Skills: acting tools body, voice, & imagination, building trust, collaboration (working together as an ensemble), speaking skills, spatial awareness, and much more.

Performance Skills: blocking, building characterization, improvisation, reacting, developing expression & stage projection.

Casting & Rehearsals: although we are not a performance-focused program, students experience the rehearsal process & line memorization techniques.

CREATIVE DRAMATICS “TAKE 2” PERFORMANCE ACADEMY

Back by popular demand, performance classes for our younger Drama Kids (ages 6-11) are held weekly for 2 hours at select locations. During the Fall Session, students rehearse an original Drama Kids International play that will be performed for a live audience at their respective class locations the first week in February. The Spring Session culminates in a live performance of a BBB Press musical held at the Egg in Albany, the weekend of June 8-11, 2023. Plays to be announced in February. A separate performance fee applies.

ACTING ACADEMY “TAKE 2” PERFORMANCE ACADEMY

*NEW THIS SPRING!* Performance classes for Junior Acting Academy (ages 8-13) and Senior Acting Academy (ages 14-18) are held weekly for 2 hours at select locations. The Spring Session culminates in a live performance of an MTI Jr. Musical held at the Egg in Albany, the weekend of June 8-11, 2023. Plays to be announced in February. A separate performance fee applies.

DKI “TAKE 2” ADVANCED MUSICAL THEATRE PERFORMANCE ACADEMY

PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE REQUIRED* Our brand-new ADVANCED Musical Theatre Academy program expands acting fundamentals while delving deeper into more complex acting, singing, and staging techniques. Classes are held weekly for 3 hours, and each session concludes with a live performance of a full-scale Broadway Jr. Musical. Open to ages 8 and up, our new musical classes are combined, with students from our Creative Dramatics, and Junior & Senior Academy Academies rehearsing together. Our Fall Musicals are performed “in-the-round” at UAlbany’s Arena Theatre, while our Spring Musicals return to the Egg in Albany, June 8-11, 2023.

FALL TUITION: 4 monthly installments of $215 or pre-pay & save: $815.

SPRING TUITION*: 4 monthly installments of $215 or pre-pay & save: $815.
Or pre-pay for the full year and save over 10%: $1545**

*Students in our Fall programming are automatically re-enrolled into our Spring session unless written notice is given at least 2 weeks before the start of the new session in February.
**Enrollment is ongoing; tuition is pro-rated based on the day your child starts class.

ADDITIONAL PERFORMING FEES

Performance Fee: All Performance Academy classes are subject to a $75 Performance Fee charged upon enrollment, which covers the cost of materials, 3rd party licensing & royalty fees, and end-of-year student awards.

Ticketing Fee: For musical productions performing at a separate venue, a ticketing fee will apply and will be automatically debited from the card you have on file prior to the final performance date (Fall Session 1/15/23 & Spring Session 5/15/23). Ticketing fee TBD based on venue but will not exceed $75 per family. *No ticketing fees are charged for performances held at your child’s respective class location.

Costume Fee: Families are NOT charged a costume fee, but students are responsible for providing their own costumes. All Drama Kids costumes should cost little to no money to make, and suggestions will be emailed later in the session.

Registration Fee: A $25 registration fee is charged upon enrollment for new and returning families to cover growing administrative costs.

All performance fees are charged per family, NOT per student. 10% Sibling Discount applies off all Drama Kids tuition.
