Maya Apodaca, Director of Teaching and Summer Camps

Maya has been with Drama Kids since 2007 and was promoted to Director of Teaching and Summer Camps in 2012. She takes the lead in hiring, training and supervising our teachers. Maya attended the University of New Mexico where she majored in Elementary Education and Theater Arts. Outside of Drama Kids, Maya is a ballroom dance teacher and has been teaching children the creative elements and fundamentals of dance and drama for over 18 years.

Jessica Torres, Administrative Support

Since Drama Kids inception, Jessica has been working behind the scenes, and handles registration processing, class scheduling, and bill processing along with a myriad of other responsibilities. Jessica hails from Sam Houston State University. She believes in the Drama Kids system and loves watching the kids grow in confidence.

Tonya Megyesi, Drama Kids Teacher

After years of being a Drama Kids parent, Tonya wanted to get more involved in the program. Tonya was excited about the philosophy of DKI as she had witnessed the results of the program first-hand in her daughter.  As a Sunday school teacher and home school mom, Tonya plans classes that engage children in active, hands-on learning that instill the importance of presentation and creativity.  Tonya has also been involved in many community theatre productions herself.

Heather Felton, Drama Kids Teacher

Heather is a graduate of the Stella Adler Academy of Hollywood and attended Second City Chicago. She has appeared in Film and Television. Heather has also appeared in live theater on Chicago’s Broadway and The National Children’s Theater Touring Co. She is an experienced private coach and director. Heather is excited and proud to be a member of the Drama Kids team, her greatest joy in life is being able to be a wife and mother.

Marcus Stimac, Drama Kids Teacher

Mr. Marcus holds a degree in Theatre Arts Performance from Southern Methodist University and is a veteran teacher with Drama Kids International. Marcus has also worked at many campuses throughout the Dallas Independent School District as a standardized test preparation specialist and youth mentor. Marcus can be seen performing around town onstage at many Dallas area theaters. This talented actor and teacher provides the voice for “Dr. Hogback” on Cartoon Network’s show, One Piece. We are thrilled to have him on the team!

TX3.Kristin ThrowerKristin Thrower, Drama Kids Teacher

Kristin graduated from the University of Texas at Arlington with a BA in Communications. She grew up attending local theater camps, danced with her high school dance company, and sang throughout school including the chamber chorus with UTA which allowed her to perform opera. She started out in journalism at an early age working at her college newspaper then in just a few years, accepted a position at Fox 4 News in Dallas producing on Good Day. Kristin continues her passion for the news industry now at Cumulus Media in Dallas working as a Producer/Reporter for WBAP/KLIF but missed the joy teaching provided. Kristin is proud to be a returning drama teacher with us and hopes to continue making a positive difference in the lives of Drama Kids.

TX3.Gillian HorowitzGillian Horowitz, Drama Kids Teacher

Gillian is a graduate from the University of North Texas with a degree in Hospitality Management. However, she is no stranger to the world of performing arts. She has been participating in children’s theaters around the DFW Metroplex since the age of 4. She has taken opera lessons, and enjoyed singing and music so much that she even put a musical theatre spin to her ice skating performances! Miss Gillian has been performing and competing through ballroom dance for the past 12 years. As a returning teacher, Gillian is thrilled to continue the DK journey because she says Drama Kids includes all the things she loves, including her love of theatre and deep desire to give back to others that which she received from her own mentors. She knows first hand the positive impact the experience can make.

TX3.Lisa EvansLisa Evans, Drama Kids Teacher

Lisa comes to Drama Kids by way of Hampton, Virginia, where she taught both middle and high school for four years in Bible and Drama classes. She spent the next two years at Hampton University, her undergraduate Alma Mater, as an Associate Professor teaching Oral Communications and a variety of acting classes. For the past twenty years, Lisa has devoted her time and talent to the body of Christ by writing and producing original dramatic plays. She holds a B.A. in Speech Communication and Theater Arts and a M.A. degree in Communication in Theater Arts from Regent University.

TX3.Oscar KincheloeOscar Kincheloe, Drama Kids Teacher

Oscar is an alumnus of Oklahoma City University where he earned his BFA in Acting/Children’s Theatre. He has worked with children in the theater for upwards of 10 years most recently with Oklahoma Children’s Theatre. While at Oklahoma Children’s Theatre (OCT) he served as the Outreach Education Coordinator and was an actor, teacher and director. He has also taught high school professionally in Oklahoma City. He also served as the director of Young Company for OCT (a company of child actors in 2nd-5th grade) and was the staff advisor of OCT’s Youth Advisory Board. As an actor Oscar has appeared in such shows as Hamlet, Romeo & Juliet, Macbeth, Hank the Cowdog, Miss Nelson is Missing and A Christmas Carol. Oscar is ecstatic to be working with Drama Kids this year!

TX3.Kara FosterKara Foster, Drama Kids Teacher Apprentice

Since Drama Kids arrived in the DFW area in 2006, Kara has been actively involved either as a student, assistant, or summer camp counselor. Miss Kara has over 8 years of experience in dramatic arts and absolutely loves working with children of all ages. Kara is a wonderful role model for kids. Most recently she was one of two candidates selected to represent the Rockwall community at Girl’s State, a national leadership program. Kara has appeared in many RHS Spotlight Productions, community theatre productions, and all Drama Kids and DKI Acting Academy plays. Kara is working with Drama Kids through our apprentice program and plans to pursue an education in medicine at The University of Texas next fall. She will forever be a “Drama Kid”, and plans to utilize her strong communication skills wherever she goes in life!

latereshiaLatreshia Lilly, Drama Kids Teacher 

Latreshia Lilly is super excited to embark on this journey as a Drama Kids Teacher! She received a BS in Theatre with concentrations in Musical Theatre Performance and Performance/Directing from Northwestern State University in Louisiana. Recently she worked with Missoula Children’s Theatre, where she toured the west coast with her husband, casting, directing, and performing a full length musical with 60+ kids each week. Also, she can be found in the DFW area performing with several theatres. If there is one thing she would say to her future students for this year it would be “Buckle up because we are going on a crazy-silly-thriller-roller-coaster ride, of DRAMATIC FUN!”

phillipPhillip Slay, Drama Kids Teacher 

Phillip Slay is a full-time student at the University of Texas at Dallas, studying Arts and performance with his concentration in Drama, pursuing a career as a theatre teacher. He has performed in several productions with Collin College, as well as doing theatre in high school. His previous experience includes working with the Young Actors Guild of McKinney, as well as working with kids at a pediatric clinic in North Dallas. He loves his Drama Kids family!

BerstermanAudrey Bersterman, Drama Kids Teacher

Audrey Bersterman started acting in church skits and lettered in theater at Poteet HS in 2001. In 2006 she graduated from Trinity Valley Community College with an Associate of Arts Degree and was active at Henderson County Performing Arts Center in Athens TX. Her future goals include finishing her BFA in Theater Arts at UNT. She designed costumes for Sundown Collaborative Theater in Denton TX. This mother of two has experience providing care for the elderly and special needs children as a live in nanny and caregiver. In her spare time she enjoys painting and pottery.

Chandler Gibson has spent eight years in the Drama Kids program as a student, and two years in Theater in other programs. He helped teach our Drama Kids summer camp this past summer, where he made the decision to become a Drama Kids teacher assistant with the Drama Kids program. Chandler has been a nice addition to our team. He brings energy and dramatic fun!
